Daihenshin
From Puyo Nexus
Daihenshin(Literally: Big Transformation) is the name of a rule set introduced in and exclusively used by Puyo Puyo 7. It is also the default rule set of the said game, and was used to promote it in early press-release info. The mode is similar to Fever mode in many ways, but it also is unique in other ways.
Basic Mechanics
The gameplay rules are very similar to Fever, except that no Fever gauge or Fever mode are present. Instead, a Henshin gauge is visable. The Henshin gauge is filled by either offsetting nuisance puyo (compare to the Fever Gauge), or by eliminating nusaince puyo from your board. The Henshin time, which is how long one can be in either Henshin form, starts at 15 seconds, and can be increased to 99 seconds by simply erasing puyo. When the Henshin Gauge is filled completely, the player goes into a henshin and the character and board transform, depending on the options chosen at the beginning of the round. When the time runs out, the player returns to their board, with their Henshin gauge and time reset, and their last piece before entering if they went into Deka Mode. While in either henshin, trash does not fall until the player exits the transformation. If the player performs an All Clear, the are awarded with extra Henshin time and a pre-made chain of 4-5 steps in length. It also introduces Quick Drop, where a Puyo can instantaneously be dropped by pressing up. Of course, one can still press down to make the the Puyo fall faster, rather than instantly.
Deka Mode
In Deka (Mega) mode, the character transforms into a more adult-like form, and the board size changes to 3x9, making it resemble Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary's Giant Puyo mode. While in Deka mode, the player's objective is to make as many clears as possible in the time they have. Each clear adds to their chain, which is shown as an equation: (intial chain) + (subsequent chains). The total number of chains cannot exceed 99, despite it being possible to have an endless chain. Since each clear adds to the chain, it becomes more and more powerful. Players who spend excessive amounts of time in Deka Mode will send massive amounts of garbage to their opponent. If the Puyo reach the X, the player does not die. Instead, the player is given a time penalty, and their board is cleared. If the player performs an All Clear, the player is given a time bonus. If the player fails to clear a group withing 5 seconds, their chain is broken and they have to start again from one.
An "Endless" version of Deka mode is available in Puyo Puyo 7. It is essentially identical to the Endless Fever mode of the previous games, where the objective is to achieve the highest chains and scores in the 60 seconds provided. Of course, unless the player continuously All Clears, 60 seconds in Deka goes less farther than 60 seconds in Fever.
Chibi Mode
In Chibi (Mini) mode, the character transforms into a baby-like form, and the board size increases to 10x18. In Chibi Mode, pre-made chains drop like in Fever Mode. If the player successfully triggers the chain, the chain increases in size by 2. If the chain ends in an All Clear, the chain increases by 3. If the player fails to correctly set off the chain, the chain is reduced by 1. The maximum possible chain, without player extension, is 37. Players are given time bonuses for setting of the chain correctly and by getting All Clears. If the players Puyo reach the Xs, they do not die. However, they are given a time penalty of 99 seconds, which instantly kicks out the player.
An Endless variation of the mode can be found in Puyo Puyo 7. The board and character still shrink, but it is played like a normal endless game, with no time limits or fancy, seizure inducing backgrounds. The player makes enormous chains with their baby-size Puyo and character until they die by reaching the Xs at the top of the board.
