Alternate Costume
Alternate Costume (or ac) means characters are shown in a significantly different costume to their official one. This does not necessarily include images which have less or more clothing than official art - normally only different.
High Resolution
High Resolution (or highres) means the image has an array of pixels larger than 1000x1000 (By this, we mean that it has more than 1000*1000 pixels overall, such as 1280x800. Please use a calculator to determine this if it might be close.) This also means that the quality of the image is what you would expect from a picture with a significant amount of data, meaning crisp and clear where intentional. Images that were digitally resized only constitute the highres tag if there was a significant amount of effort put into the resizing and it visually looks good enough to appear as if it contained a similar amount of pixels initially. The same goes for scans and photos.
Low Resolution
Low Resolution (or lowres) means that the image is believed to have been reduced in size from the original art. This can be detected by comparing sizes of the pictures in a collection, or by observing anti-aliasing artifacts in what appears to be pixel art. In addition, non-pixel art under 100x100 pixels may be considered lowres.
Lowres art should almost certainly be replace as soon as possible or deleted if it is part of or an exact sampling of an existing image.
Artifact-ridden
Artifact-ridden (or just artifacts, in British English artefacts) means that the image contains compression or resampling artifacts.
Because the majority of Nexus users live in the US, the spelling used is the American English artifact.
Character Grid
Character Grids are images based off of a template that consists of boxes and lables. Other artists then fill in the boxes with appropriate drawings.
Character grids are popular in Pixiv. In order to find the source grid template, you must sign into Pixiv, go to the image in question, and scroll down, where a link to the grid will be found.
Official
All images with official content, as opposed to fan content, should bare the official tag. Most of the time, official images do not require source; however, if there is a good reason to include source, you may do so.
(Please note that official art is not expected to be mixed with fan-art. If the image in question is PRIMARILY official, please use the official tags. Derivative works which contain no original art shouldn't be put on the imageboard.)
Pixel-art
Pixel-art is art composed via direct manipulation of individual or few pixels at once. Pixel-art is often composed with less technology than other art, avoiding anti-aliasing and true alpha transparency, and a lot of times without the use of layers. Therefore, Pixel-art is often signaled by the absence of the use of advanced image editing techniques, but mainly by the lack of anti-aliasing.
